Coconut has got his eye on Mossman Gorge and is even thinking of making an investment. Not that Mossman Gorge — the four-legged, hay burning one. Yes, after our discovery last year of the exploits of a nag called Port Douglas, running around in Ireland, and later on Miss Mossman, another horse doing its best over here, he learned of a newcomer called Mossman Gorge just this week. Mossman Gorge was a $90,000 yearling and his Canberra-based trainer Matthew Dale has been pleased with the youngster’s progress as a twoyear-old. Perhaps because he won $20,000 in Canberra the other day. Now they’re weighing up a bigger outing on March 5. And gee he sounds good, if the trainer’s comments are any guide. “He’s got good natural speed,” reported Matty Dale. Coconut knows little of the affairs of the turf but certainly thinks “natural” speed is the right sort to have.
