St Augustine’s parent night starts year

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - @SCHOOL -

ST Augustine’s Primary School ‘s parent information night was a brilliant success with 158 adult representatives from the 218 students enrolled (72.5 per cent) attending.

The principal and staff gave briefings regarding the curriculum and expectations for the year ahead.

Some key information given on the evening included;

• Parent engagement is critical for creating a school community that supports student success.

• Communication with teachers is valued and welcomed

• Homework - Parents can reinforce reading, spelling, sight words and basic number facts - such as Tables at any time. Wushka (Literacy) and Matific (Numeracy) are webbased programs purchased by the school for students to use in the home.

• Restorative Practices is the basis for future Pastoral Care and behavioural management

Principal of St Augustine’s school, Mr Rayner, said he and his staff were “delighted by the huge attendance on the evening given the amount of rain that was falling.

Students see by their parents’ attendance that education is valued and this in-turn encourages students to make the most of their opportunities at school”.
