Muddies Under 16s too good for Innisfail

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

WITH Astute Financial Muddies Under 16s Reuben Allison and Daniel Davidson playing their 50th games for the club the boys were keen to come away with a win. In a low scoring affair the Muddies, 84, was enough to beat Innisfail all out for 45.

With the memory of a Round 1 loss to Innisfail still fresh in their minds the Astute Financial Muddies were keen to make amends.

The boys were sent in to bat on a slow pitch. Opening pair Tex McDowall and Daniel Davidson got off to a steady start before Tex popped one up and was caught on 3.

Vincent Killeen was next in and started steadily before a suicidal run saw him fall short of his ground, out for 3. With new batsmen Tom Walker (4) at the crease Daniel started to accelerate hitting two sixes and a four before having his leg stump knocked over finishing with 46 from 51 balls faced.

The slow pitch played havoc with the middle order, with Nathan Deuble and Ryan Doble both falling for 2.

sWith a total of 84 runs to defend, it seemed the Astute Financial Muddies bowlers would have their work cut out. Opening bowlers Ryan Doble and Nick Rayner combined pace with great line and length to tie down the Innisfail openers, both falling for just 4 runs. Ryan Doble finished with the enviable figures of 1 for 7 from four overs while Nick Rayner, who looks to be the bowler of the competition so far, finished with 2 for 1 from his four overs.

Reuben Allison continued with his nagging line and length to finish with 1 for 10 from four overs, while Liam Clacherty did a great job tying up the batsmen to finish with 0 for 3 from three overs.

Luke Twomey and Connor White both finished with 1 for 4 from two and four overs respectively.

Vincent Killeen took 1 for 10 and Nathan Deuble had the opposition batsmen bamboozled, changing from leg spin to medium pace half way through his spell, finishing with 2 for 4 from four overs.

Arguably the boys’ best performance with the ball this season saw Innisfail all out for 45 in the 28th over with the points going to the Muddies.

The Dave’s Takeaway man of the match award went to captain Daniel Davidson for his 46 runs and four catches with the gloves.

This Saturday sees the Astute Financial Muddies Under 16s travel to Crathern Park to take on Barron River in their last one-day match of the season.
