Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

WITH an afternoon start time of 1pm on February 4, the Cairns Stingrays Sprint Qualifier Meet at the Woree Bicentennial Pool ran late into the night finishing at around 9pm a couple of hours after most swimmers are in bed.

The Meteors had nine young swimmers from their Douglas branch compete throughout the afternoon and in to the night, completing a total of 46 swims between them .... plus two lots of team relays to top it off - not a bad effort for kids that only range in age from 5-13 years old. Remember that swimming is a sport where you train for hours a week to compete in a sometimes 30sec race so even a 1sec PB is celebrated.

Individual results are as follows :

Audrey Gaske (10yrs) swam in 7 events and gained new PB’s in her 50m Breaststroke, 50m Backstroke and a massive 14sec PB in the 100m Breaststroke earning her a 4th place. Audrey also gained 4th placings in her 50m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke.

Heath also earned himself a 2nd place medal and new PB in the 100m Breast and a 3rd place medal and new PB in the 50m Breast. Some great swims by Heath!

Gus also swam a new PB and earned a 3rd place medal in his 100m Breaststroke and also swam an epic race to take out a 2nd place medal in the 100m Backstroke. Great results for Gus!

Rosa Cruz (8yrs) also competing for the first time in the 50m Breaststroke getting a time on the board for that one, and set herself a new PB in the 50m Freestyle also.
