Left vehicle hinders the ambos

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS - Scott Tibballs

LOCAL paramedics have slammed an inconsiderate driver after they were forced to work around an illegally parked vehicle on Macrossan St to transport a patient.

On Friday ambulance officers responded to an incident at the Port Village Medical Centre where a patient was suffering from chest pain, to find a work ute with a trailer parked in the designated emergency vehicles parking area.

“This caused a delay for officers in getting to the patient,” said Port Douglas officer in charge Ian Day, explaining that ambulances needed to be parked in the street.

Officers then had to hold up traffic so they could load the patient into the ambulance.

“A delay in responding and attending to patients could mean the difference between saving a life and losing a life,” Mr Day said.

The reserved parking area is located there so paramedics can find parking and get to patients quickly.
