2ND MARCH – SUN PRINCESS CRUISE SHIP ARRIVAL
TPDD currently has the Show Me Your Paradise campaign live asking locals to nominate themselves to become regional ambassadors to help us tell the world about our paradise. We are currently working on in-house media itineraries to generate shoulder season bookings as well finalising advertising activity for the coming months. In addition to marketing activities TPDD participates in many regional tourism development initiatives such as the recent review of the TNQ Destination Tourism Plan through to 2020. The Australian tourism industry is a multilayered beast that seems overly complex to the outside observer. We, Tourism Port Douglas Daintree, are the local tourism organisation for the Douglas Shire falling under the regional tourism organisation Tourism Tropical North Queensland, one of 13 regions under Tourism Events Queensland, the state tourism organisation falling under the national organisation Tourism Australia, phew. This structure may seem overly layered and bureaucratic but in a region such as Douglas where tourism makes up more than 80% of our economic activity we need a locally based and focused organisation that ensures our regions needs and aspirations are heard at higher levels while promoting our regional tourism assets to key markets. Today the Queensland Tourism Industry Council will host a forum that is looking at the state wide funding model for tourism promotion and development. This discussion will look at the structure of the industry and a framework for a state-imposed visitor tax to fund promotion and industry capacity building. What are your thoughts? Please direct them to firstname.lastname@example.org industry the opportunity to meet key North American Wholesale Owners/Product Managers to provide updates and secure preferred agreements, as well as the chance to meet and train select Premier Aussie Specialists invited to the event. North America is one of the top three international markets for the Douglas region, recording 24% growth in the past year and is tipped to continuing growing. TPDD will attend alongside representatives from Sailaway, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, Quicksilver Group, Pinnacle Tourism Marketing, Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours, Thala Beach Nature Reserve, Wildlife Habitat and Northern Escape Collection. Sun Princess will be anchoring outside Port Douglas and bringing over 2000 passengers with her! This visit is part of a 7 night Queensland cruise, departing from Brisbane and stopping in Airlie Beach before arriving in Port Douglas. Sun Princess will be anchoring at 08:00 and departing at 18:00. The ship is heading out to Willis Island following time in Port Douglas.
