BIRDWING BUTTERFLY BLOWS IN

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

A Cairns Birdwing butterfly (Ornithoptera euphorion) spotted by Gazette reporter Scott Tibballs in Port Douglas last week. The birdwing is the largest endemic butterfly species in Australia, and is found only in Northeast Queensland. As testament to the well-kept (and for now well-watered) gardens of Port Douglas, the birdwing favours the rainforest of the wet tropics, particularly along the coast.
