Shock at quote for insurance

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

A FAR North first homebuyer was shocked when a major insurer quoted her $21,000 for home insurance.

Edmonton resident Tracey Green recently bought a threebedroom, two-bathroom 1970s house with “nothing flash about it”.

When she started shopping around for home insurance, some of the quotes took her by surprise.

“I think the girl nearly fell over when she came back to me with that price, she was quite embarrassed the poor girl,” she said.

Ms Green said she was told it was due to the risk of cyclones.

Cairns Mortgage Broker Roger Ward is leading a campaign to drive down insurance premiums in the Far North by calling for the reintroduction of a state government insurance office.
