Muddies C falter in semi final battle

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

THE Astute Financial Muddies Third Grade team played a topsy turvy season in a bid to back up their multiple Premierships of the past two seasons but still dug deep enough to make the weekend’s Semi Final in third place vs Mulgrave in Cairns.

Losing the toss, Muddies were sent into the field against a very strong batting line up that saw the opening bowlers deliver tight but ineffective line and length until the youthful discipline of Nick Rayner captured the first wicket at 1/38.

But Muddies allowed a 120run partnership before Darlington took his “catch of the season”. The batting platform was strongly built however and it was only Rayner who returned better figures with 4/43 from Mulgrave’s formidable 7/284 off 75 overs.

The second day’s play started poorly. Rayner was again the exception with a fine 36no and Redfern a fast 15 off just 7 deliveries to see Muddies all out and their season over for just 131 off 50 of the 75 overs.

The Team and Club extend a huge thanks to all volunteers, the committee and sponsors: Astute Financial, Courthouse Hotel, Stationery Hub, NQ Carpet Cleaning, Port Douglas Dental, LJ Hooker, Hemingway’s, Central Hotel, Dave’s Takeaway and Blake Henning Electrical.
