Sharks nab first win for 2017 season

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

THE Mossman Sharks have come back from a season opening loss to chalk up their first win of the season, beating Kangaroos 34-20.

Coach James Doolah said the win was great for morale.

“A lot of weight off the shoulders. Second round, but it felt really good to get a win and the boys really enjoyed it as well.”

He said that the team worked well and stayed on target to achieve the result.

“We stuck to the game plan and we scored a few tries.

“It was a team effort, everyone has done their job.”

The Sharks managed to pull ahead in the second half after coming the scores were level at half time.

“Roos fought back in the first half, we had a good chat at halftime and it all came together.

“It’s going to be really tough next week against Innisfail, but hopefully in the next couple of days a few of the boys will come back fit from a few injuries and we’ll be even stronger than what we are now.”

The last time the Sharks faced the Leprechauns they managed a win over the then ladder leaders and James said they hoped for a repeat this weekend at the Mossman Showgrounds.

“We’re going to have to do a little bit more than what we did on Sunday. They’re a bigger squad so maybe change a few things through the middle.”

Mossman forward Trevor Wosomo fends odd Kangaroos rivals Michael Taylor and Kyle Schuh in his side’s first win for 2017.
