Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

TWELVE-YEAR-OLD Mossman State High School student David Neller has a lot to show from dedication to footy with success at the two-day regional junior rugby league championships at Innisfail.

Not only was David picked from dozens of talented young players to train at a Peninsula rugby league team clinic in Cairns a few days later, he was selected to play with the team at Townsville later in the year. He also was offered a sports scholarship with Ipswich Grammar School.

“It feels great that I’m being offered a scholarship,” said David.

“It’s a big decision about where I’m going or not, but it tells me I’m playing better footy.”

David said he had always enjoyed playing footy.

“I think it’s a good sport and it’s entertaining. It keeps me occupied,” he said.

Mum Petrina Neller said it was a fantastic opportunity, not only for his love of the game, but for his education.

“It’s a great opportunity, a once in a lifetime opportunity,” she said.

“Not only for sport, but for a better education, a better career path and future.”
