Mossman Gorge goes green with solar power
THE Mossman Gorge Centre will soon lighten its environmental load with a new 100 kilowatt roof-mounted solar power system.
The 350 recently installed solar panels will offset 40 per cent of the centre’s energy demand.
“The system is part of a long-term strategy in reducing our eco footprint in this environmentally sensitive area,” Mossman Gorge Centre general manager Ben Pratt said.
“Given our centre operates during daylight hours it just made sense to opt for a solution that benefits off our spectacular weather and sunshine here.”
The roof-mounted solar panels won’t be hidden from sight. Mr Pratt said that the centre would be introducing an interactive display showcasing the impact the solar installation was having on the centre’s energy consumption with drone footage taken of the installation.
Mr Pratt said the solar panels added to the centre’s existing rainwater retention infrastructure, low-emission bus fleet and internal recycling system. “(These programs) show our commitment at the centre to sustainability and protecting the environment for many years to come,” he said.
