SCHOOLS TAKE PART IN NATIONAL YOUTH WEEK

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

All schools in the Douglas Shire have participated in the National Youth Week Art Project, organised by Mossman Youth Services. Youth Development Coordinator of Mossman Youth Services, Sara Harris, said this year’s Youth Week activities – the Art Project and Lazer Tag – were made possible by a $1500 grant from the national Youth Week Community Grant Scheme. “We bought every school a large canvas and asked them to have their students create a representation of this year’s Youth Week slogan, Be Bold, Be Brave, Be You,” Sara explained, “and as can be seen, there are some great pieces here [on display at the the shire chambers].” The project also gave teachers the opportunity to discuss the theme, Be Bold, Be Brave, Be You, with their students and how this message relates to young people today. The art project will be on display in the Council Chambers foyer until the end of Youth Week, April 9 and then the works will be returned to the schools.
