Sophie nets competition vouchers

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

SOPHIE Hamilton, 6, of Mossman is an expert when it comes to netting for fish.

Sophie has won a competition in the Gazette run by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and its Local Marine Advisory Committee to instruct people in the most environmentally friendly way to use nets.

It puts an emphasis on using cast nets, instead of drag nets.

And in her competition entry Sophie showed complete mastery of the subject.

“Make sure you only catch fish you are allowed to because some are endangered,” said Sophie, on hearing she had won, due to the brilliance of her entry, both the $50 voucher at Nautical Marine Sales in Port Douglas and a $50 voucher at Mossman Bait and Tackle.

“Dad is a sustainable fisherman,” Sophie said. “He never catches anything.”

Well done, Sophie, and thanks to all who entered.
