EBAY NOT HAPPY

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

INTERNET retail giant eBay is threatening to ban Australians from buying from overseas sellers because of the Government’s plan to slap the GST on foreign online purchases. eBay and fellow seller Amazon are warning the Government’s plan is open to rorting, will see customers hit with higher prices and put at greater risk of being fleeced and could trigger a tit-for-tat trade war with other countries. The Government wants to remove the GST exemption for imported “low value” goods worth less than $1000 from July 1 in a bid to “level the playing field” with bricks and mortar stores and online Australian retailers.
