Biweekly flights to Karumba start
BIWEEKLY flights to Karumba have taken off.
Regional Express has started flying a 34-seat aircraft into Karumba until 29 June to boost tourism opportunities, increase business development and improve access to medical, education and other services.
Passenger data and com- munity feedback from the trial will determine if demand can support permanent flights.
The new air services will operate in Cairns, Mt Isa and other communities on the Gulf air route.
Assistant Transport Minister Glenn Butcher said the Government wanted to make communities well-connected and make them better places to live.
Karumba Airport’s runway was upgraded in 2009.
The services operate as follows: Monday arriving from Mt Isa and departing to Cairns.
Thursday arriving from Cairns and departing to Mt Isa.
