See your best pic on a new council bin!
CALLING all local amateur photographers – Douglas Shire Council wants your help to reduce littering and improve the health of our spectacular natural environment.
As part of the Love Where You Live photo competition, local amateur photographers are invited to submit their favourite photos which showcase our environment and highlight the natural beauty of the area.
Council will then select eight winning images which will be displayed on new public place recycling bins in the Douglas Shire along with the photographer’s name.
Mayor Julia Leu said the combined effort was aimed at reducing litter reaching the Great Barrier Reef.
“Litter is a major source of marine debris, washing from streets and roads into creeks and waterways and eventually ending up in our ocean,” Mayor Leu said.
“Much of this litter is plastic, which can be recovered and recycled if it is placed in a recycling bin.
“Council is installing additional public place recycling bins in the Shire in an effort to reduce the volume of debris entering the Reef.”
Local amateur photographers are invited to submit up to five of their photos which showcase the beauty of the Port Douglas area. Images must be in Portrait orientation and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org along with an entry form by COB on Friday, May 26.
