Party’s over for fish farm’s fat crocodile visitor
A three-metre crocodile has been removed from a fish farm near Mourilyan after it was inadvertently trapped in a fishing net by farm staff.
The crocodile was removed from a pond at the barramundi farm about 15km south of Innisfail, on a tidal stretch of the Moresby River.
The crocodile is in exceptionally good condition after spending time on the fish farm.
The animal became entangled in a drag net yesterday morning while workers were harvesting fish from the pond.
Wildlife officers from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection have removed the crocodile from the farm and have taken it to a nearby holding facility. It e will be offered to a farm or zoo.
