Party’s over for fish farm’s fat croc­o­dile visi­tor

A three-me­tre croc­o­dile has been re­moved from a fish farm near Mourilyan af­ter it was in­ad­ver­tently trapped in a fish­ing net by farm staff.

The croc­o­dile was re­moved from a pond at the bar­ra­mundi farm about 15km south of In­n­is­fail, on a tidal stretch of the Moresby River.

The croc­o­dile is in ex­cep­tion­ally good con­di­tion af­ter spend­ing time on the fish farm.

The an­i­mal be­came en­tan­gled in a drag net yes­ter­day morn­ing while work­ers were har­vest­ing fish from the pond.

Wildlife of­fi­cers from the De­part­ment of En­vi­ron­ment and Her­itage Pro­tec­tion have re­moved the croc­o­dile from the farm and have taken it to a nearby hold­ing fa­cil­ity. It e will be of­fered to a farm or zoo.
