Ex-deputy mayor in run­ning for Cook

FOR­MER Cook­town deputy mayor Penny John­son has been named the LNP can­di­date for Cook.

Ms John­son served as a coun­cil­lor in the pre­vi­ous term.

The seat is held by con­tro­ver­sial in­de­pen­dent MP Billy Gor­don, who has yet to con­firm he will run again.

Re­cently Ta­nia Ma­jor, a for­mer Young Aus­tralian of the Year, an­nounced she would seek ALP en­dorse­ment for the seat.

The LNP also an­nounced its can­di­date for the new­ly­cre­ated seat of Hill on Sun­day with cane farmer Mario Quagli­ata get­ting the nod de­spite the party’s plans to shift Mul­grave can­di­date Robyn Quick into the spot last month.
