Juniors pump up contest in Douglas Netball Assoc

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

SOME fantastic games were played in Round 2 of the Douglas Netball Association competition.

The junior players put in a solid effort resulting in some close score lines. Jets took on Panthers 12-15 and Mossman Magic played Firebirds 14-10. Lou Broadley, DNA treasurer and junior team coach, said of the girls effort, “It’s fantastic to see the young members improving their skills and enjoying themselves on court as well.”

The Crocettes side made a promising start, with strong defence on the opening centre pass leading to an early turnover and an early lead for the Diamonds.

Both sides were in great form resulting a very watchable game with another close score line 22-24.

Player’s choice went to Jordan Scott and Lani Dickson, both girls playing exceptionally well.

Mudskippers and Rattle 1 faced off, Mudskippers snatching the win 27-18. Rattle 1 player Lauren Radcliffe was name both player’s choice and best and fairest. Renna Sayed was players choice for the Mudskippers.

Young Guns 3 battled it out against Rattle 2 in a very physical game, with the Rattle shooters fighting the windy conditions to win 33-15.

Tracey Butland from Rattle 2 was named best and fairest.

The Young Guns versus Cougars matchup saw the Young Guns players work hard to slow the ball through the court and prevent any easy looks into Cougars’ sharpshooter Cassandra Cairns. It took the Young Guns a couple of minutes to adjust to the pressure and settle into their rhythm, ultimately coming away with win 36-31. Lana Baxter and Marley Cairns were name players choice and Kyah Francis of the Young Guns best and fairest.
