Home­made bomb found in Edmonton stops traf­fic

A home­made bomb found on the side of the Bruce High­way in Edmonton was buried and det­o­nated last night.

Po­lice de­clared an emer­gency sit­u­a­tion yes­ter­day af­ter­noon un­der the Pub­lic Safety Preser­va­tion Act fol­low­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions into the sus­pi­cious item

The emer­gency dec­la­ra­tion en­com­passed McLaughlin Rd and Robert Rd and both lanes of the Bruce High­way were closed from Foster Rd, Mount Sheri­dan, to Mill Rd.

The item, be­lieved to be a home­made bomb, was found about 11.45am yes­ter­day by a mem­ber of the pub­lic and was re­ported to po­lice soon af­ter.

Of­fi­cers from the Ex­plo­sive Or­di­nance Re­sponse Team went to the lo­ca­tion and Xrayed the item, con­firm­ing it to be con­sis­tent with an ex­plo­sive de­vice.
