Homemade bomb found in Edmonton stops traffic
A homemade bomb found on the side of the Bruce Highway in Edmonton was buried and detonated last night.
Police declared an emergency situation yesterday afternoon under the Public Safety Preservation Act following investigations into the suspicious item
The emergency declaration encompassed McLaughlin Rd and Robert Rd and both lanes of the Bruce Highway were closed from Foster Rd, Mount Sheridan, to Mill Rd.
The item, believed to be a homemade bomb, was found about 11.45am yesterday by a member of the public and was reported to police soon after.
Officers from the Explosive Ordinance Response Team went to the location and Xrayed the item, confirming it to be consistent with an explosive device.
