SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Mossman High student Lennox Schonenberger is heading off to Brisbane this week to play in the Under 19s Peninsula Team in the Qld Junior Rugby Championships.

Lennox was chosen from a field of around 100 other players at trials in Innisfail.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity. I’ve been training every week in Cairns with the rest of the team,” Lennox said.

“It appears we have a strong and confident side and I think we will go well at the carnival.”

The Peninsula Team covers the whole northern region from Tully to Torres Strait Islands and west to include the Atherton Tablelands.

Lennox has been playing with the Sharks since he was five, but until this recent development he treated the game as a hobby.

“When I got picked for the Peninsula Team I decided to be really committed,” he said, “so I spent a lot more time in the gym.”

His family has been busy fundraising to send Lennox to the carnival with meat and chook raffles at the Post Office Hotel in Mossman.

Donations were also received from the Mossman Bowls Club, Killaoe’s Scrap Shack, Mossman Custom Kitchens and the Post Office Hotel.
