Sixteen new citizens welcomed

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS - Gizelle Ghidella

PRIDE was overflowing as 16 new Australian citizens were welcomed with cheers and laughter at a citizenship ceremony in Mossman Shire Hall.

People from all walks of life, from as far as Croatia and as close as New Zealand decided to make the pledge to officially call themselves Australian.

Vikram Jit Singh, originally from India, came to Australia on a student visa to study hospitality 10 years ago.

He couldn’t help but smile as he received his certificate, something he said was worth waiting for.

“I’m feeling so honoured and proud to be an Australian.

“Australia is a multicultural country, it’s got lovely people, lovely weather,

“It didn’t take me long to realise this is the land of opportunities,” he said.

Vikram was thankful for his hard working mother’s support who he knows would proud of where he is today.
