‘Tinnie men had IS items in pack’

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

ITEMS found among the belongings of one of six alleged “tinnie” terrorists caught on Cape York matched those contained in an Islamic State manual, a Melbourne court has heard.

An Australian Federal Police agent told a committal hearing the force had obtained a copy of a 50-page manual, entitled Hijrah to the Islamic State, from the internet.

Investigating officers noted items found in a backpack belonging to one of the accused were consistent with those outlined in the guide book.

All six men are charged with making preparations for incursions into foreign countries to engage in hostile activities. Cerantonio, Dacre, Thorne, Granata and Kadir Kaya were arrested near Laura on May 10, 2016 towing a 7m boat en route to Cape York.

The hearing is continuing.
