“There were 9000 plus people at the street parade and more 10,000 people at both the Beach Day and Spiegeltent events,” she said.
World renowned show La Soiree received rave reviews and was so popular they had to schedule another show.
“Overall the event was a huge success with an increase on previous year’s numbers and millions of dollars coming into the Port Douglas economy,” Ms Head said.
Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu was pleased Port was able to host such stellar shows. “To achieve such an amazing line up of events, on what is a limited budget and also get shows of the calibre of La Soiree is remarkable for a community of our size,” Ms Leu said.
“Melissa Head and her Knockout Events Team have done an awesome job with Carnivale this year. We were treated to a huge variety of events and the weather was just glorious.
“While Carnivale is a fantastic community festival for all of us to enjoy, the prime aim is to promote our stunning Shire and drive visitation to our area,” the Mayor said.
Visitors like the Michell fam ily of NSW. Early on Sundaythey had wandered down by Dixie Park and found themselves invited in to see Lah Lah, the kids band. Then their kids flew kites at the Beach Day.
“All for free. It’s just been magic,” said Claire Michell.
Melissa Head said she loved working in Port Douglas and hopes to organise the famous party in paradise next year.
