Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

CONSTRUCTION of the first stage of the Flagstaff Hill Walking Track will start within the next two weeks.

Council has awarded the project to a contractor and is reviewing project management plans.

Stage 1 will concentrate on constructing a path from the existing stairs at Four Mile Beach, linking to the lookout.

Meanwhile, Council is working with Cairns Regional Council to formulate a joint project working group on the mooted Wangetti Walking Trail, including stakeholders from both shires and traditional owners.

The project working group will seek to identify potential funding for the design, construction and management of the Wangetti Trail and investigate marketing and promotional opportunities.

“The Wangetti Trail is destined to become one of Australia’s most breathtaking nature trails and Douglas Shire Council is very proud to be partnering with Cairns Regional Council and the Federal Government to further develop the concept,” Mayor Leu said.

“Council is finalising its budget for the new financial year which will include a financial contribution to help establish and support the aims of the joint project working group.”
