B‘nBs get a break on fees

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - BUSINESS -

FEES for approving new bed and breakfast or farm/forest stays have been scrapped and hire fees for community halls significantly reduced under the 2017-18 Fees and Charges Schedule adopted by Council.

The bed and breakfast approval fees have been removed to reflect changes in the market and reduce red tape for these small businesses while the community hall fees have been reduced by more than 50 per cent to encourage greater use of these facilities.

Overall the majority of Council fees and charges will increase by 3.9 per cent in the new financial year to achieve an equitable “user pays” system for services.

Mayor Julia Leu said it was important for Council to recover the costs of providing services under the fees and charges schedule.
