Good luck today, Miallo!

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS @SCHOOL -

SELECTED students in Years 4-6 at Miallo State School contributed to its student-led ‘Literature Circle’ reading program, in which participants read the same novel or autobiography, and unpack its literary features and themes.

As part of Miallo’s Literacy Extension Program, ‘Literature Circles’ has been successfully challenging high level, fluent readers and extending and supporting their reading skills.

Students are being encouraged to take charge of their learning while supporting and inspiring each other.

The program is based on Harvey Daniels’ work, supported by the reading comprehension ideas of Sheena Cameron and modified for our exceptional students.

Five of our ‘Literature Circle’ students have been selected to participate in the Readers’ Cup competition today (Thursday, June 8).

This is a state wide competition for young readers which is organised by the Queensland Branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia and held in Cairns.

Our students will be competing alongside 35 others from the Cairns region, and are reading six novels in their own time, in order to prepare. Best of luck to Team Miallo!
