Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

In response to Rod Kilner’s comments regarding “the intrusion of a political/ environmental protest group in AntiAdani group” for the Carnivale Parade night, the Stop Adani Douglas Shire group was registered as a community organisation and followed all the application process keeping within the theme and guidelines.

As the theme of the parade was “Wonders of the Reef”, I think it was quite appropriate and in past years there have been other local environmental groups in the parade.

As I am aware, the Street Parade is a way for businesses and community groups to promote their organisation or business.

The Stop Adani Douglas Shire Alliance was merely promoting their organisation which is focused on protecting our reef from the destruction of a mega coal mine.

I find it suprising that someone would complain about a local community group wanting to help protect The Great Barrier Reef – a reef which has supported Port Douglas for so long.
