Council finishing design on Four Mile disability access

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

COUNCIL is finishing design work to enable wheelchair access on Four Mile Beach.

A structure of recycled plastic will be built near the surf club.

It will provide wheelchair access from the shower unit on the Esplanade to the beach and will feature a viewing platform where people can also transition from their own wheelchair to Council’s special beach wheelchair.

A rollout mat will enable wheelchair access from the beach viewing area to the hard sand so that people in wheelchairs can gain access to the water.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of the new financial year and once completed.

It will complement Council’s Access Douglas Directory which details all of the community assets available to people with a disability.

The Access Douglas Directory is available on Council’s website.
