Reef Sprinter shells out for mooring

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS - Gizelle Ghidella

IT’S full speed ahead for Port Douglas Reef Sprinter tour operators following their purchase of a rare mooring at Low Isles. Reef Sprinter is now one of four operators with moorings that give exclusive access to the island all year round.

Steve Sherwell, owner of Reef Sprinter, said a “regular permit” had only allowed them 50 days a year “on the actual island”.

With the purchase of the former Enterprise mooring from Stargate, Reef Sprinter can carry out bigger plans. “We’re quite lucky to have it, there were a lot of people going for it,” Mr Sherwell said.

“These permits don’t come up often. It’s got a lot of potential if done right. We’re looking forward to offering a different option to people and a bumper season”.

Reef Sprinter will kick into action with the inauguration of new half day tours to the Low Isles in a few weeks.
