Taste will spotlight local wares

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - REALESTATE - Moya Stevens

TASTE Port Douglas is gearing up for another year of celebrating food and cooking and is inviting local businesses to exhibit their wares at the Festival Village on August 12 and 13.

According to Ms Reina Patrick, the Festival Director, they want local food producers and people who produce food related products to display their goods at the festival.

“We already have a really exciting line up this year from locally made timber chopping boards to artisan Italian sweets but we want more,” Reina said.

“Our food industry has so much to talk about and we want to our festival to showcase it,” she said. Major media partner,

magazine, is supporting the event this year and this reflects the interest and excitement Australia has for the North Queensland food scene.

Taste Port Douglas runs over three days from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 August, hosted by the Sheraton Mirage, and will feature a Festival Village on Rex Smeal Park.

“The Festival Village is free for guests to enter and enjoy cooking demonstrations by their favourite chefs, food and produce master classes, beverage tastings, live music and a host of children’s activities,” Reina said, “and there will be a Mega Marketa and Food Truck Fiesta on the Sunday.”

Some of the celebrity chefs who will be participating in Taste Port Douglas include Colin Fassnidge, Monty Koludrovic, Anthony Puharic, Massimo Mele, Nelly Robinson and Ben O’Donoghue.

“You won’t find another food festival in Australia where you can sit and watch the likes of Colin Fassnidge and Ben O’Donoghue cooking on a stage that is overlooking the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest,” Reina said. “There’s a relaxed vibe at Taste Port Douglas that you can’t replicate at other festivals.”

Applications are open for local producers, food trucks and food product retailers to exhibit at the Festival Village.

Self-set-up and unpowered sites are free with powered sites starting at $175.
