Keen to catch a barra

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT - Tyone Tabke

I’M a pretty regular angler from Ipswich. The best fish I’ve ever caught was a 90cm snapper in the Brisbane River.

It was a decent fish, I was fighting it for about 15 minutes.

You can get some nice fish in there, surprisingly.

It’s my first time up here in Port. We drove up.

It’s beautiful weather here; back home it gets to 5 degrees.

I’m going on a charter on Saturday and I’m pretty keen to land my first barra.

A decent fingermark would be nice too.

At home I usually chase bass, flathead or bream but there’s no barra down south.

I thought I’d pop down here while the missus is shopping and throw a prawn out and see what bites.

I love the adrenaline of hooking a fish and outsmarting them.

I normally use lures but I change it up sometimes to keep things interesting.

They always say positive energy travels through the line.
