Gar­den comp en­tries are open now

ABC Tele­vi­sion’s Gar­den­ing Aus­tralia host, Costa Georgiadis, will be visit­ing the shire to judge the in­au­gu­ral “Let It Grow” Dou­glas Gar­den Awards.

Green thumbs will have a chance to show off their work in the com­pe­ti­tion from now un­til Au­gust 25 with judg­ing to take place on the Septem­ber 14 and 15.

Dou­glas Shire Mayor Ju­lia Leu said she was pleased lo­cals had this op­por­tu­nity.

“We have so many fan­tas­tic gar­dens in Dou­glas, so I’m de­lighted lo­cal gar­den­ers will be able to en­ter the in­au­gu­ral awards,” she said.

“For me the awards are about show­cas­ing our cre­ative green thumbs and demon­strat­ing the health and psy­cho­log­i­cal ben­e­fits of gar­den­ing.

“I’m very ex­cited Costa can make it to the Shire to judge the awards.”

The awards has a cat­e­gory for ev­ery type of gar­den from large land­scapes to reg­u­lar home gar­dens.

Gar­dens will be judged on their de­sign and lay­out, en­vi­ron­men­tal ini­tia­tives, use of plants and creativ­ity.
