Cairns Airport has confirmed three aviation announcements in the past weeks increasing the international arrivals into Cairns from later this year. The first announcement of Silk Air increasing their Cairns to Singapore weekly frequency to five times per week from November as well as during the peak months of July and August in the interim. Korean airline Jin Air will again operate a seasonal service to Cairns from Seoul in December and January and the final, much anticipated announcement that China Southern Airlines will be flying Guangzhou Cairns services starting December this year with three services per week year round. This is not only expected to increase visitation from China as it opens up the ‘Canton Route’ for travellers to connect from Europe through to Cairns. The three flights will strengthen the growth the region has seen this year in inbound travel which was up 10% to the year ending March 2017 into the Douglas Shire.
