PAR­LIA­MEN­TARY IN­QUIRY CON­VENES IN PORT DOU­GLAS

Le­ich­hardt MP War­ren Entsch led a par­lia­men­tary in­quiry in Port Dou­glas on Mon­day into ways to stim­u­late North­ern Aus­tralia’s tourism sec­tor. Tourism Port Dou­glas Dain­tree ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Tara Ben­nett was joined by Dou­glas Shire Council Mayor Ju­lia Leu plus rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the Dou­glas Cham­ber of Com­merce, Quick­sil­ver Group, Mor­ris fam­ily, Cook Shire Council and the Dain­tree Mar­ket­ing Co-op­er­a­tive speak­ing at the in­quiry. Is­sues such as re­duc­ing green and red tape, per­mit sys­tems, visi­tor in­fra­struc­ture, fund­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties and threats to the in­dus­try were among some of the top­ics dis­cussed.
