Judo play­ers fly­ing high

RE­SULTS for Coral Coast Judo Club mem­bers.

Great Bar­rier Reef Mas­ters Games were held at North­ern Beaches Judo Club re­cently in Cairns and at­tracted over 50 play­ers from Aus­tralia and Ja­pan.

Two se­nior men from Coral Coast Judo com­peted. Andy Schmidt re­ceived sil­ver in the mid­dleweight di­vi­sion over­all, sil­ver in the open ground work and gold in his age di­vi­sion for ground work and gold in the teams event of Aus­tralia -v- Ja­pan.

Rob McIn­tosh won bronze in the heavy­weight di­vi­sion, gold in age ground­work di­vi­sion and placed fourth in open ground work di­vi­sion.

The Cairns Open Judo Com­pe­ti­tion was also held on the week­end with 90 play­ers from across North Queens­land com­pet­ing.

Eigh­teen play­ers from Coral Coast at­tended with 14 win­ning tro­phies.

Stand­out player for the tour­na­ment was Lach­lan Wot­ton who, in his first com­pe­ti­tion, won all his fights by ip­pon (full points). This com­pe­ti­tion pro­vided fur­ther buildup for the club ap­proach­ing both the Na­tional Cham­pi­onships and then the State Ti­tles in Septem­ber.
