Pub­lic art un­veiled on Mon­day

THE com­mu­nity is in­vited to next week’s un­veil­ing of Life Amongst the Trees, a pub­lic art project funded through the Re­gional Arts De­vel­op­ment Fund.

Mayor Ju­lia Leu will of­fi­cially un­veil the mo­saic cover­ing the pub­lic ameni­ties at Rex Smeal Park in Port Dou­glas com­pleted as part of the RADF pro­gram, a State and Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment part­ner­ship to sup­port arts and cul­ture in re­gional Queens­land.

“Sam Matthews has de­voted count­less hours co­or­di­nat­ing the project, as­sisted by Dou­glas Arts Stu­dio Gallery tu­tors Con­nie Rossi, Ellen Ter­rell, Leanne Em­mett, Liz Shown­iruk and over 100 vol­un­teers at a num­ber of free com­mu­nity work­shops in 2017,” Ms Leu said.

“Feed­back has been over­whelm­ing, with vis­i­tors from all over the world tak­ing hun­dreds of pho­tos dur­ing the in­stal­la­tion process, keen to go online to see the fin­ished prod­uct. The un­veil­ing will be a cel­e­bra­tion of the com­mu­nity work­ing to­gether to cre­ate a stun­ning work of art for ev­ery­one to ap­pre­ci­ate.”

The un­veil­ing at Rex Smeal Park, is at 3.30pm Mon­day.
