Lures keep things interesting

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT - Andrew Graham

I’M up here from Sydney on holidays with the family and I thought I’d come down here to see what I can catch.

I like using lures, soft plastics and hard bodies., they’re more fun.

I normally fish inland for murray cod or I’d try and fish off the beach for flathead.

Those murray cod are massive. The best one I’ve caught was probably around the size of my forearm.

They’re heavy fish so it put up a decent fight. They’re great fun to catch.

I’ve caught an eastern cod which is quite rare but they’re protected and you have to throw them back.

I’ve just been learning the ins and outs of fishing, I didn’t grow up near the water.

For the last few years I’ve been learning beach fishing.

There’s a bit of a difference between fishing of the beach and inland fishing, you have to focus and learn new techniques.

I do a bit of bass fishing with surface lures.

I love seeing the fish attack the lure and it feels like a good win when I land the fish as well, lure fishing is a bit more work but it’s more fun.

You see the fish attack and it’s such a cool sight.

Fishing for bass is my favourite sort of fishing.

I like fishing but I don’t get to fish as much as I’d like.

I fish by myself, my family don’t like it. I think I should hire a new family.
