DOUGLAS GIRLS HIT THE ROAD
Top juniors represent the region in Singapore
THE most promising junior netballers from the Far North have showcased their talent in Singapore, attending a training camp and three matches against teams from Singapore’s local competition as part of the Kenfrost Homes Vicki Wilson Marlin Coast Netball Academy.
Selection of the Marlin Coast academy and Satellite Association Player/Coach/ Umpire Development programs was finalised in April after a selection process in which players were observed and identified during the Junior Premier League and Marlin Coast Challenge competitions as well as during local association clinics.
The region was lucky to receive expert guidance from netball legend Vicki Wilson, who directed the players and coaches on the academy program. As part of the squad Douglas Netball players Jorja Harvey, Kyah Francis, Lana Baxter and Georgia McCarthy were selected for the international competition.
The Douglas Netball players have been participating in an intensive training program with their coach Sharon Beechey since February in preparation for their Singapore debut.
Since selection the academy squad has been training with a combination of clinics, carnivals and home coaching programs. Lana Baxter and Georgia McCarthy were selected to play in the mid court as centre and wing attack.
Jorja Harvey and Kyah Francis were selected in the goal shooting circle.
The girls learned new skills to take on to the court back in Australia and experienced netball in another country.
These promising young athletes have put in a fabulous effort in the lead up to jetting off to Singapore and represented the Douglas region in spectacular fashion.
