Co­ral Coast ju­niors take the fight to In­n­is­fail

TEN ju­niors and one ju­doka from the Co­ral Coast Judo Club came away from the In­n­is­fail Open Com­pe­ti­tion with a bag of 12 medals.

It was one of the last com­pe­ti­tions to be held prior to the state ti­tles.

The 70-strong com­pe­ti­tion had com­peti­tors from In­n­is­fail, Cairns, Mt Isa, Char­ters Tow­ers and Townsville.

Co­ral Coast’s gold medal­lists were Nanami An­der­son, Gwenyth Dow­ell, Nikita McDon­ald, Jorja Tude­hope, Solomon McGrath and Lach­lan Wot­ton,.

Sil­ver medals were awarded to Julie An­der­son, Holly Dow­ell, Solomon McGrath and Oliver Tude­hope.

Bronze medal­lists were Rikki An­der­son and Matilda McDon­ald.

Club coach Andy Schmidt said “Jorja Tude­hope and Solomon McGrath were in their first com­pe­ti­tions and achieved great re­sults.

“All our play­ers con­tinue to medal and this was re­ally en­cour­ag­ing in the lead up to the state ti­tles.”

Of­fi­cial con­fir­ma­tion has now been re­ceived that David Rus­sell and Se­bas­tian Temesi have been se­lected for the Aus­tralian team for the World Cham­pi­onships in Bu­dapest, start­ing on Au­gust 28.
