SHARKS RESERVES EYE THE FINALS
Another win keeps Mossman’s finals hopes alive
THE mighty Mossman Port Douglas Sharks reserves have their sights set on finals footy after their convincing win against Ivanhoes.
Sharks reserves are currently sitting fourth on the Cairns District Rugby League Reserves ladder behind Brothers, Innisfail and Yarrabah.
The reserves are set to take on wooden spoon holders
Atherton this Saturday at the Shark Tank – the last home game for the Sharks this sea- son.
Seniors coach James Doolah said “it’ll be really good for the club if the reserves make finals”.
“The reserves played well. Eddie Daniels was a standout which earned him man of the match.”
For the Sharks seniors it’s unfortunately a much different story. Short on numbers due to injuries and some sheer bad luck, the A grade squad needed coach Doolah to run on field again.
“My fitness level was way off but I ended up scoring the first try which was good,” he said.
“We lost George Toby with a broken arm in the first half, which was unfortunate.
“We started off really well but slowed down towards the end of the game. “
Pride prodigy Shawn Bowen returned to his footy roots to score two tries for the senior Sharks.
“It was really good to have him back,” said Doolah. “He played full back and he did everything he needced to do.
“He gets better and better with every game.”
The senior Sharks went down 18-34, so will be hoping to make amends this weekend.
“Playing Atherton won’t be an easy feat and we will be working on our defence in training to counter them,” Doolah said.
“We plan on having some fun and play our best footy to finish the season off”.
