A smoking ceremony by Kuku Yalanji traditional owner Caleb Hall has officially opened Stage 2 of the works planned for the Flagstaff Hill walking trail.

Eco Civil Solutions will partner with local indigenous company Bulban Enterprises to carry out the work and training will be provided for 15 staff, who will strengthen their skills for future employment opportunities.

Bulban Enterprises director Rickie Burchill expressed the importance of the smoking ceremony.

“Traditional owners do a smoking ceremony to bless the area and the people around to make sure the job is getting done safely,” he said.

“It’s an excellent initiative.”
