MOSSMAN’S WILD NIGHT
The Mossman Sharks turned into Cowboys for a while on Saturday as they helped out at the bullride that had come to town for an important fundraiser for the club. It was a big night that was well supported by the town.
BUCKING bulls and crazy cowboys came to Mossman on the weekend and the town loved the thrills, spills and the rodeo clown.
Mossman played host to Round Two of the 2017 Great Northern Bull Riding Series.
Riders travelled from Camooweal, Mt Isa and Ipswich to compete, and local boys Joey Buckingham, Bert Gregory and Jack Henley showed off their skills to the home crowd.
NQ Rodeo Entertainment worked in conjunction with the Mossman Port Douglas Sharks to hold the event as a fundraiser for the local team.
Around 1200 people rocked up to the Mossman Showgrounds to watch all the action. Many dressed for the occasion, pulling on western boots, jeans, shirts and hats.
NQ Rodeo promoter Peter Brown said the rodeo proved to be a success.
“It went very well, it was a great economic boost for the town and the feedback we got was just fantastic,” Mr Brown said.
“We wanted to take the rodeo to regional towns and try and make money for good causes.
“We’d love to bring it back to town again.”
However to host the event it wasn’t all smooth riding.
Mossman Port Douglas Sharks president Jason Fasano said he’s unsure if they can host the event again.
“The council charged our club a commercial bond for use of the area which was $4000, instead of non-for-profit rates,” Mr Fasano.
He said the event had been a very important thing for the club and the community, “and all our players volunteered to help out, which set a good example”.
The final round of the 2017 Great Northern Bull Riding Series will be held at the Ivanhoes homeground in Smithfield, this October.

Unhappy landing on the way!
