Work starts on new dive centre for Port Douglas
CONSTRUCTION started yesterday with soil tests on the $3.5 million Quicksilver Dive School site, the first ever dedicated learn-to-dive centre for Port Douglas.
The design, by Cairns’ CA Architects, features an above ground 4-metre deep pool with a glass viewing wall from the retail area.
The Dive Centre will accommodate up to 48 students each week and 12 staff once completed in mid 2018.
Company Field Constructions has the contract for the build, with a team of 25 workers made up mostly of locals.
Quicksilver Group managing director Tony Baker is excited to see the plans come life.
“We hope by the beginning of our peak season in July next year we will have the first learn to dive customers,” he said.
