25TH – 27TH OCTOBER – INBOUND UP NORTH
I spent last week on the Gold Coast at the inaugural Western Corroboree trade event where I trained 300 travel agents from our key western markets over 110 appointments. The agents I met who are currently selling Australian travel are big supporters of the Douglas region reporting they put on average more than 80% of Queensland bookings into Douglas. Each market has subtle differences in what it is they come to our region for. While the Great Barrier Reef is our number one draw card, it is the beaches for some while the rainforest is a highlight for others. Our village lifestyle, self drive itineraries and climate were also key factors. The Tropical Journeys Great Barrier Reef Marathon and Port Shorts Film Festival are taking place this month and both events are the biggest to date. We look forward to welcoming locals, domestic and international visitors to our region. TPDD held the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday night. Thank you to our members who joined us at the meeting and to QT Port Douglas for hosting the event. The Board positions of Chair and Vice Chair will be announced next week. Australia our slice of Paradise will be bustling over the weekend. There is a FREE 2.3km kids event kicking off at 8.30am for anyone who would like to get involved. With any event of this size, changes and closures to road conditions will occur, please visit http:// www.greatbarrierreefmarathon.com.au/ welcome/road-closure-information/ to make sure you are aware of all changes and closures. NOTE: Port Douglas Road, Davidson Street and Captain Cook Highway are NOT affected by these changes to traffic conditions. TPDD strongly encourages everyone to come and join us and cheer on these amazing athletes! TPDD along with a number of Douglas based operators will be representing the Douglas Region at the Australian Tourism Export Council’s annual Inbound Up North trade event which has a twist this year and will commence in Cairns and finish in the Whitsundays. The training presentations will take place onboard the Spirit of Queensland. This event is now in its 18th year and delivers an informative, educational, funfilled few days of back to back workshops with distributors from around Australia. This event will bring over 50 key inbound tour operators to Tropical North Queensland.
