Training course a way to dive into tourism

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

NORTH Training & Consultancy and Tropical Journeys have partnered to offer a tourism and dive course, set to start on March 19.

The Certificate III Tourism with Open Water Diving (SIT30116) is the first of its kind in the region and has been designed for those with hospitality experience keen to gain the skills necessary to work on reef tour boats.

Brooke Rigby, course co-ordinator of Far North Training & Consultancy, explained the qualification could also be ideal for anyone looking to advance their career in hospitality or tourism by upskilling or gaining recognition for their existing skills.

“Exploring the reef as part of work is an incredible opportunity, but it can be hard to get a foot in the door. This collaboration with Tropical Journeys means we can offer industry experience and practical, hands-on training with a wellrespected local tourism operator,” said Ms Rigby.

Adam Jones, general manager of Tropical Journeys, said he was excited to bring this course to life with Far North Training & Consultancy.

“Tourism is the lifeblood of this region, so a certificate that combines a PADI open water dive course with subject units like guided snorkelling, first aid, and social and cultural sensitivity is a win,” said Mr Jones.
