Sharks, Crocs and Dragons prove a merry lot
THE Douglas Shire celebrated their champion teams during the Premiers Parade along the main street in Port Douglas and Mossman on Tuesday.
A single flatbed truck cruised through Macrossan and Front streets with a mix of Sharks, Crocs and Dragons onboard, with a police escort — waving and cheering with those who looked on.
Though the timing of the event wasn’t the most favourable, the clubs appreciated the gesture.
“The gesture was fantastic,” Port Douglas Crocs president Chris Bradsworth said.
The original plans for the procession called for three flatbed trucks for the Douglas United Dragons, Port Douglas Crocs and the Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks.
“Most of our guys were unavailable after having a week off after the premiership,” Mr Bradsworth said.
Students from St Augustine’s in Mossman proved to be very vocal supporters of the local teams as they travelled ed down Front St.
Many residents raised the question on Facebook as to why the event wasn’t held on a weekend so all could be involved.
Mayor Julia Leu said that the council had worked with the clubs and local police to find a suitable time for all involved.
