Call to share fes­tive spirit

DOU­GLAS res­i­dents have been asked to dig deep for strug­gling fam­i­lies and do­nate spare cash to the 2018 Mayor’s Christ­mas Ap­peal.

Dou­glas Shire Coun­cil Mayor Ju­lia Leu set a $2000 goal at the launch to go to­wards Christ­mas ham­pers and to help spread the fes­tive spirit.

“The an­nual Mayor’s Christ­mas Ap­peal helps those lo­cal fam­i­lies who need a bit of weight off their shoul­ders this Christ­mas,” she said.

“Christ­mas is a re­ally spe­cial time for giv­ing and here is a fan­tas­tic op­por­tu­nity to make a dif­fer­ence in your own back­yard.”

Coun­cil has joined Moss­man Sup­port Ser­vices, Port Dou­glas Neigh­bour­hood Cen­tre and Jawunkarra In­dige­nous Fam­ily Sup­port Ser­vice to launch the ap­peal.

Do­na­tions of $2 or more are tax de­ductible and forms are avail­able at coun­cil’s web­site, Moss­man Ad­min­is­tra­tion Of­fice, Port Dou­glas Hub and Dou­glas Li­braries.

Fam­i­lies with chil­dren aged 15 years and un­der, hold­ing a Fed­eral Govern­ment ben­e­fit card are el­i­gi­ble to ap­ply for a food ham­per from Oc­to­ber 23 to Novem­ber 30, 2018.

“Coun­cil ap­pre­ci­ates the con­tin­ued sup­port of our lo­cal com­mu­nity groups that give their time an­nu­ally to pack and de­liver ham­pers across the shire,” Cr Leu said.

• Jawunkarra In­dige­nous Fam­ily Sup­port Ser­vice, 7 John­ston Rd, Moss­man. Ph: 4098 3244 Mon­day, Tues­day Wed­nes­day 9am till noon and Thurs­day 9am to 3pm.
