Call to share festive spirit
DOUGLAS residents have been asked to dig deep for struggling families and donate spare cash to the 2018 Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.
Douglas Shire Council Mayor Julia Leu set a $2000 goal at the launch to go towards Christmas hampers and to help spread the festive spirit.
“The annual Mayor’s Christmas Appeal helps those local families who need a bit of weight off their shoulders this Christmas,” she said.
“Christmas is a really special time for giving and here is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in your own backyard.”
Council has joined Mossman Support Services, Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre and Jawunkarra Indigenous Family Support Service to launch the appeal.
Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and forms are available at council’s website, Mossman Administration Office, Port Douglas Hub and Douglas Libraries.
Families with children aged 15 years and under, holding a Federal Government benefit card are eligible to apply for a food hamper from October 23 to November 30, 2018.
“Council appreciates the continued support of our local community groups that give their time annually to pack and deliver hampers across the shire,” Cr Leu said.
