Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

A DEDICATION to the ‘Digger of Douglas’ statue will be showcased at a special armistice centenary service in Mossman on Sunday.

The region’s fallen soldiers will be remembered in what is expected to be a large gathering.

The Douglas Shire had more than 220 soldiers enlisted in First World War, including 41 who died on the battlefield.

“These services are always incredibly moving and attended by people from all walks of life,” Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said.

“It is always heartening to see the community come together to remember these brave people.

“This opportunity to commemorate the armistice centenary will be truly special.”

Federal Member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch and Mossman RSL President Ron Savage will join Ms Leu in speaking at the Mossman Cenotaph.

The service starts at 10am.
